Summer Jobs Program

Mayor Daley’s Youth Ready Chicago connects thousands of Chicagoans ages 14-24 with rewarding apprenticeships, internships and jobs at local businesses, agencies and nonprofit organizations. Find out how you can apply and obtain tips to help you prepare for a bright future doing something you love!

Types of Opportunities

Every summer, the young people who participate in Mayor Daley’s Youth Ready Chicago assist in many different types of settings – in our city’s parks, public agencies, leading corporations, nonprofit organizations, TV stations and much more. They are lifeguards, tutors, childcare workers, administrative assistants, fast food team members, sales associates, special events coordinators, customer service personnel, painters, computer specialists, organizers, inventory specialists, receptionists, cashiers and more. On your application, you will be able to indicate your skills and interests. While there are more applicants than there are opportunities available and it is best to keep your placement options open, you will be able to specify if you want to assist in a particular area of the city or for a particular type of organization or business.

Each Youth Ready Chicago employment partner has their own hiring criteria. For example, to qualify for an internship with the City of Chicago, you must be either 1) a college student in good academic standing currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or law school OR a student in good academic standing currently enrolled in an accredited business or data processing/information technology school or 2) a high school student that can provide a current high school identification card for spring/summer 2010. Both college and high school students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 grading scale or a 3.5 on a 5.0 grading scale. Resume, current enrollment verification letter and current transcripts are required. To be considered a college student you must be enrolled or have completed one semester/quarter of college courses for spring/summer of 2010.
